App service principal holds a Tier 0 admin role (T1098.003)

This app's service principal holds a Tier 0 admin role, such as Global Administrator, either assigned or eligible in Privileged Identity Management.

Why it matters

Whoever holds this app's credential, or the vendor's, acts with the role and can take over the tenant. An app can activate an eligible role as easily as it uses an assigned one.

How GraphnAI finds it

It runs after every sync, on each connected domain or tenant on its own. It applies to Microsoft Entra ID.

It reads:

  • The directory attributes servicePrincipalType, appOwnerClass, appOwnerOrganizationId and verifiedPublisher
  • 4 more GraphnAI analyses

How Select Fire™ fixes it

How to fix it

Remove this admin role if no one in your organization assigned it on purpose. If the app might have been misused, review what it changed while it held the role.

What Select Fire changes

Select Fire opens from the finding and simulates each change on your live graph before anything changes in your directory.

  1. Remove directory role assignment For user accounts, groups and service principals.Manual: you approve each change one at a time, and no automation runs it.

The app loses the admin role at once. Anything it does with that role stops working.

By hand: In Microsoft Entra, open Roles and administrators, find the role and remove the app's assignment. For another organization's app, disable the service principal first; don't delete it, because deleting removes consent.
