Computer or trust account password may be guessable offline (T1110.002)
Anyone who can reach a domain controller can ask it, without authenticating, for a time reply signed with this account's password, then try to guess the password offline. That works when the password isn't random.
Why it matters
Likely for an account created in advance with a default password, or a trust whose password hasn't changed. Less likely when rotation has only stopped.
How GraphnAI finds it
It runs after every sync, on each connected domain or tenant on its own. It applies to Active Directory.
It reads:
- The directory attributes
userAccountControl,accountEnabled,pwdLastSet,whenCreatedandlastLogonTimestamp
Tiered Fidelity™ level: Constrained
Every finding from this check carries the Constrained level.
- TheoreticalConfigured in the directory. Nothing else checked.
- ConstrainedThis checkA constraint on it has been checked.
- ValidatedTelemetry has seen it in use.
Why there's no automatic fix
GraphnAI doesn't reset computer or trust passwords, because a reset out of step with the other side breaks authentication.
How to fix it
Reset the account's password, or remove the account if it's no longer used.
